That doesn't mean the idea behind this mount should be abandoned entirely a modicum of extra work could have been done to give the Spectral Phoenix a more ethereal appearance, similar to mounts like the Spectral Steed, Spectral Wolf, or the Spectral Pterrorwing. The reason for this backlash was because of how similar the mount looked to the Dark Phoenix, a mount released all the way back in Cataclysm. The Spectral Phoenix was originally meant to be the reward for the 100 Exalted Reputations achievement, but was replaced with the Pureheart Courser after community backlash. You can find a large collection of such mounts here, but I will share some of my hand-picked favorites. These are models and spells that have already been designed to function as player mounts within World of Warcraft's database, but were never implemented into the final product of the game. It stands to reason that Shadowlands might not either however, Lord of the Reins was implemented in patch 6.2.2, which was towards the end of Warlords of Draenor, so the prospect of another mount collection achievement this expansion isn't completely out of the question either. Before these two achievements, the last mount collection achievement was Lord of the Reins from Warlords of Draenor, which means that Legion did not provide players with another mount collection achievement. In the same patch they implemented No Stable Big Enough, which rewarded the Biting Frostshard Core-an ice blue-inspired recolor of the Fiendish Hellfire Core and Living Hellfire Core. The most recent mount collection achievement is A Horde of Hoofbeats during the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch, which rewarded players with the Frenzied Feltalon-a fel green-inspired recolor of the Alysrazor Flametalon and Voidtalon of the Dark Star-for collecting 400 mounts usable by a single character.
